I have a lot of clients and friends who say that they get so disgusted when they go on a cruise and end up making really unhealthy choices and come back having gained weight and feeling yucky. I say DOES NOT NEED TO HAPPEN!
We cruise every year with the family and there are always delicious meals and I always lose weight on each one. This is what prompted me to plan a cruise where people from all walks of life who are interested in living as healthy as they can be could get together and learn and have fun.
We will be a group of lap-band, gastric bypass, sleeve, and medically supervised weight loss folks who do not care how we all got there or where we are o the journey but just want to all be together and celebrate our health and learn new tips and tricks for living life to the fullest it can be. I decided to call it the Fit and Flourishing Caribbean Cruise.
This is our ship…..
We sail from New Orleans on the beautiful Carnival Conquest on November 25th and head for Belize, Cozumel, and Roatan. All three of these ports have incredible things to offer! The link above has lovely photos of each port. We will have great sessions and speakers on topics that are for everyone who cares about their overall health. Chef Ben and I will speak on the very first day about cruise-ship eating. “Vacation Eating- keeping the healthy in your yummy!”
We will also have topics about fitness, body image, emotional issues, and much more. One speaker I am really excited about is my colleague from the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America- Sandi Henderson. She is a very inspirational woman who has started truly living since her lap band surgery. Take a look:
I spent my life fighting my weight until at 56 years old, in 2004 I had life saving lap band surgery and lost 250 pounds. I am now passionate about advocating for all treatments for obesity to be accessible and want to help people along their journey. To this end I am co founder of http://www.bandedliving.com/, our facebook page is lapbandedliving. I co-authored a book called “IsLap Band Surgery For Me?” which is available at amazon.com and also sold in many bariatric surgeon’s offices.I am on the National board of directors of the WLSFA(wieght loss surgery foundation of America) I am on the advisory council of the obesity action coalition and to this end have spoken to legislators and legislative assistants on the need for access to ALL modes of treatment for obesity.
I enjoy scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling, playing with my grandkids and long walks on the beach now that I have my life back. I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt and a business owner. I love sharing my journey and what I have discovered about living life after weight loss surgery to pay it forward.
We intend to spend a week getting to know each other, hearing each others’ stories and learning from each others’ experiences. Being with your peers is always a great experience. For many who are signed up, this will be their first vacation free from morbid obesity. I have had some email me and tell me this will be their first time doing water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, or para-sailing. I also just got an email from one lady who will be putting on a bathing suit for the first time in her life.
These are the things we need to celebrate together. Some will exercise with us daily, some will choose to use the spas, some will just enjoy relaxing by the pool. The great thing is we want all of you to do as much or as little as you choose. There will be sessions for about two hours a day on the sea days and then will have a Meet and Greet one evening and a group breakfast for those who want to attend! For the rest of the time you can set the pace and set your own schedule.
The Conquest is never short on things to do for fun. Trust me- I have sailed this same itinerary and there is way more to this trip than eating and drinking.

Fun tip for those on a budget- Did you know Carnival spent 63 million on the port of Mahogany Bay in Roatan? The port has a private beach with a 300 yard snorkeling pier, 2 restaurants, shops, and cabanas. You can also rent snorkel gear for less than $20.00 per day so no excursion needed in this port!
This is Mahogany Bay
Be sure to go to our website and book before rates go up! Right now and for the next two weeks- a cabin with 2 is less than $500 per person for the whole week! Also keep up with us on Facebook for the latest in speakers as we add them as well as the schedule of events! We will also answer questions about the ship and ports of call!
We want to fill this ship with people who share a journey and who want to celebrate where they are going as well as how far they have come!
Come join us!!!
Besides- if you live where it is cold in November, here is another reason to cruise with us! you can leave the cold and come south with us for some beautiful weather.
